As another year comes to a close so does the Atlantic Grouper and Red Snapper Season. As of January 1, 2010 the recreational and commercial harvest of shallow water groupers (including gag grouper, black grouper, red grouper, yellowmouth grouper, and tiger grouper) will close until April 30, 2010 in Atlantic federal waters.
The Red Snapper harvest wil close from January 4, 2010 until June 1, 2010 in Atlantic federal waters. Federal waters extend 3 nautical miles from shore in the Atlantic off Florida. State waters in the Atlantic (inside 3 nautical miles from shore) will remain open to the harvest of red snapper.
Also passed this year is a rule that will close the recreational and commercial harvest of shallow water groupers (including gag grouper, black grouper, red grouper, scamp grouper, red hind grouper, rock hind grouper, coney grouper, graysby grouper, yellowfin grouper, yellowmouth grouper, and tiger grouper) starting January 19, 2010 unti April 30, 2010 in Atlantic and Monroe County state waters. Next year this wil begin on January 1, 2010.
